Contents of a Coaching
During a coaching session on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, participants are introduced to the basics of this analytical method. The FMEA training shows how the analysis of possible defects can improve the quality of a product.
Different methods for risk analysis are taught and which criteria must be given in order to be able to carry out an analysis at all.
In addition to the theoretical part of FMEA coaching, practical knowledge is also imparted. Risk analyses are created during the FMEA training and then evaluated together. Here the different methods can be used and their advantages and disadvantages can be compared. Participants can get first ideas which methods are best applicable for their company, but also where the limits of the analysis methods lie.
Practical examples are also analyzed during the FMEA training and together we discuss how individual risk analysis methods can be used in a targeted manner in our own company. In addition, various tools are also considered during the training, which the participants can also use later for failure mode and effects analysis.
The goal of each coaching session is to enable the participants to apply the methods for failure mode and effects analysis in their own companies.
Prerequisites for the Coaching
It is of advantage if the participants are already working in areas where Failure Mode and Effects Analysis will be used later. For example, employees who are entrusted with project management will benefit from FMEA coaching. In any case, employees in quality assurance should have completed an FMEA training, since they will often work with these analysis methods later on.
Those who work in the development or planning of processes will also benefit from FMEA coaching, since here the avoidance of errors can already be included in the development and planning.
Although working in these areas is not necessarily a prerequisite, it helps to already understand the theoretical aspects of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
Prospective students who wish to attend more advanced training should ensure that they have already had an introduction to the subject so that they can follow along more easily when going deeper into the material.
Duration and Costs
How long an FMEA coaching takes always depends on the respective contents. Basic knowledge can already be imparted in one day, and is then associated with correspondingly lower costs.
However, those who attend more advanced courses should plan for several course days.
Advantages of FMEA Coaching
Risk analysis does not only play an important role in production companies, but also in the service sector different services can be associated with risks and failures. Therefore, basically all companies benefit from FMEA coaching.
Although failures can never be completely ruled out, they can be significantly reduced in advance with a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. An analysis can already decide whether a product with its current development status is ready for the market at all or whether the risk of failures is still too great, for example, due to the technical possibilities.
FMEA training shows participants not only which methods they have at their disposal for risk analysis, but also how to deal with possible errors. Just because an error may occur does not mean that the entire project has to be stopped. The goal of failure mode and effects analysis is to evaluate potential risks and then decide which problems need to be avoided in advance and which risks are acceptable because they are less likely to occur. Nevertheless, it is important to have a plan for potential risks that may occur because it can save companies money.
In general, companies benefit from FMEA coaching, through reduced costs in research and development. If an error is detected early on in the development process, a lot of money is not unnecessarily invested in a direction that may not be goal-oriented. Projects are not unnecessarily protracted, only to be discontinued later because it may then become apparent during prototyping that the product is too defective due to a lack of failure mode and effects analysis.
The advantage of FMEA coaching for the participants is that they are not only taught the basics, they can practice how to apply the risk analysis methods in a targeted manner using practical examples. This enables them to later select the right methods for their company in order to analyze processes or products in a targeted manner.
Above all, those participants who later also have to make decisions as to whether a product is actually brought to market benefit from FMEA training, because they also learn there that critical decisions often have to be made on the basis of the analyses. The risk analysis methods are a helpful basis on which to base decisions.
The use of various tools has also become indispensable in the analysis of risks. The FMEA training also teaches how to use such tools and how they can be used specifically in the company.
Basically, a training for all in the area of the development of products, the quality assurance and management area is beneficial. In all areas, a failure mode and effects analysis ensures that higher quality products can be developed and brought to market that are less susceptible to errors. If errors should occur during production, failure mode and effect analysis often means that possible solutions are already available, rather than having to be painstakingly searched for. This saves companies time and money if possible errors that might occur are addressed in advance and solutions have already been worked out.
